EXPO Awards Ceremony is an interactive event celebrating the inaugural year of the 2021 EXPO: New Works Competition! Join us for the premiere of three short films, two live music performances and an after party in honor of the three winners:
Katie Jenkins, Grand Prize
Nizar Bredan, 2nd Prize
Ziyi Tao, 3rd Prize
Learn more about the winning composers here.
The stories for each of the three films use the winning composers' music as the foundation of their narrative; the music directly inspires the plot. By pairing the music with another art form (dance, silent theater, and animation), the films bring to life stories with varying themes and perspectives, based on the music's emotional arc and nuances. You'll have the opportunity to listen for your own stories during the live performances, which include works by Katie Jenkins and Gerson de Sousa Batista. Each audience member will be given paper and drawing tools to express the stories they hear, should they choose!
The entire project from start to finish was accomplished by early-career composers, musicians, directors, crew members, actors, animators, dancers and artists. Come and celebrate them all! Stay for the after party, starting at 8:30pm, to chat with our artists and enjoy some food, drinks, and entertainment from our local vendors!
Doors open at 6:30pm. We encourage you to arrive then and buy some popcorn before the show starts at 7pm.
All guests are required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test from within one week of event date to enter. Student ticket holders are required to show student ID at the door. The VIP experience includes a food or drink voucher, swag bag, and a reserved seat.
